Artist Statement

Sphere(s) of Influence emerged at the beginning of the pandemic. I was locked down away from my home and loved ones, and we were faced with loss and the unknown. The signature image of the blossoming plant reaching towards the moon is a tarot card of sorts. Do we see fear and darkness, or hope and the yearning for connection? This first image also reminds us that while we live under the same moon, we often have very different perspectives, wants, and needs across cultures, and we all want and need safety, security, love, and community. 

The Modern Tintypes were born after a catastrophic accident rendered me bed bound and non ambulatory for months. The silver lining of my disability was this new way of seeing, along with a sense of solidarity with and compassion for those who’ve had to endure lengthy or permanent disability.
